BC Update: No. 92 - Improved thermal performance requirements for houses in the upper North Island
In October 2007, Clause H1 of the New Zealand Building Code was changed to require improved thermal performance (insulation) in all new houses, non-residential buildings smaller than 300m2, and in alterations to both. The changes are already in effect in the South Island and the lower North Island.
The new H1 requirements will take effect in the northern parts of the North Island (i.e., climate zone 1) on 30 September 2008.
These new requirements apply to building consent applications made on or after 30 September 2008. Applications made before 30 September are not affected.
